Traditionally tasty Staphorster recipe
Made in Staphorst, for the love of cheese
Since day 1, we at WildWestLand have been digging for the ultimate gold: a truly tasty, smooth slice for a simply delicious sandwich.
Staphorst came to the rescue. Local traditional cheese expert Rouveen Kaasspecialiteiten in Staphorst gave us a bite of a revolutionary recipe. And there it was. The irresistible creaminess and cheesy texture we were longing for, without cow’s milk, coconut or soy from afar.
The secret? Lupine. A protein-rich forgotten legume that happens to thrive on Staphorster soil.
Farmer’s Bromance, Staphorster Fromance
One of the things we love most about Staphorster: 6 dairy farmers in the Rouveen coöperation now dedicate part of their land to growing lupine. Arnold Bouwman, one of the 6 pioneers: “I see it as a way to keep farming in the future. To me, that’s the best thing there is.”
6 Staphorster dairy farmers are now cultivating lupine instead of cow feed on 15 ha of land, improving biodiversity & soil health, storing CO2 and nitrogen, and paving new ways for plant-based farming.
Together, we make Staphorster the kindest option for badass cheeselovers like you.
Source of protein with shea & lupine
Buttery shea and protein rich lupine give saturated fats a kick in the coconuts and make Staphorster Fromance big on protein, with tiny ecological impact compared to dairy slices.
It’s rich in vitamin B12 and calcium and with a gentle flavor and smooth fresh-off-the-knife structure that we never tasted before in our plant-based quest.
The combination of lupine and shea butter gives Staphorster Fromance properties we thus far only tasted in dairy Gouda cheese: a truly soft, smooth mouthfeel with a gentle taste. And you can roll up slices, just like traditional cheese, waiting for that mini gherkin on top!
